Grace Alumni 32-39 years old Basketball Team wins Game 1 of the Xavier Stallion’s Cup Inter Alumni Basketball Tournament last November 30, 2010 at Jacinto Tiu Gymnasium in Xavier School. Game 2 of the Best-of-Three Finals series against Hope Alumni Team is scheduled on December 5, 2011 Monday 8:00PM also at Jacinto Tiu Gymnasium in Xavier School.

GCC sophomore high school student Hazelle Yam was selected to be part of the Hijas Pilipinas U16 Girls Basketball Team. The team will be competing in the 2nd FIBA Asia U16 Championship for Women in Jinan, China

GRACE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE CELEBRATES ALUMNI DAY; INAUGURATES FITNESS CENTER

SEPTEMBER 14, 2011 - Grace Christian College, one of the largest Filipino-Chinese schools in the country, recently celebrated its dedication and alumni day highlighted by the opening of the GCC Fitness Center.

Constructed on a vacant long-unused lot inside the school campus, the 150 sq. m. state of the art fitness center was a gift of the class of 1981 on the occasion of their 30th year of graduation from the school. The fitness center is fully equipped with brand-new equipment to cover cardio- vascular, strength and athletic training as well as separate washrooms and LPG-powered hot and cold showers. Members of the Class of 1981 expressed the hope that the fitness center will highlight the emphasis of the school on the holistic development of its students, not to mention the physical fitness of its faculty and alumni.

Present during the turnover and dedication ceremonies were school officials led by its president, Dr. James Tan, as well as the representatives of the beneficiaries of the fitness center led by Mr. Brian Kinyeung Lam, president of the Grace Alumni Association, and Kyle David Dee, president of the Student Council of the school. A prayer of dedication and thanksgiving was offered by Rev. Stephen Tan, senior pastor of sister church, Grace Christian Church. Faculty, students and alumni of the other classes were also in attendance.

A member of Class 81 noted the fitness center was given by their class out of the desire for the school “to revive excellence in its athletics program in order to complement its internationally recognized robotics, math and science programs.” To be staffed by qualified instructors, the fitness center will be available for use by students, faculty and alumni alike.

SECURITY BANK AND GRACE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES CO-BRANDED ALUMNI DEBIT/DISCOUNT CARD

SEPTEMBER 14, 2011 - Security Bank  Corporation, one of the most profitable banking institutions in the Philippines, has partnered with the Grace Alumni Association in launching the first co-branded debit card and alumni card for alumni of Grace Christian High School (now Grace Christian College), one of the biggest Filipino-Chinese schools in the Philippines, with an alumni base of about 10,000 graduates.    An initial batch of about 50 pioneer life cards were issued to, among others,  Dr. James L. Tan, President of Grace Christian College, Mr. Brian Kinyeung Lam, President of the Grace Alumni Association, Rev. Stephen Tan, senior pastor of Grace Christian Church and Mr. Frederick Dy, chairman of Security Bank.

Daniel Yu, SVP, Chief Information Officer and SVP for the Transaction Banking Group of Security Bank of Security Bank said that the GAA alumni card is unique in the sense that “most alumni ID cards are merely discount cards while our co-branded card doubles as a debit card.  Unlike discount cards, the GAA card can be used to conveniently settle utility bills in any place where there is an ATM machine.  A debit card likewise promotes familiarity with web-based functionalities and on-line banking facilities, such as the Digibanker facility of the Bank.”

“We are very happy to have Security Bank as our partners in this pioneering effort.  We are confident our alumni will be greatly benefited by the dual functions of this card,” according to Melanie Mae Torres, the team head of Grace alumni which led the discussions for this card.  GAA vice president Gabriel A. Dee also noted that the launch of the card would not have proceeded so quickly if not for the support of Mr. Frederick Dy, as well as the encouragement of the many other alumni officers at the bank.

Batch ’81 Celebrates Pearl Reunion

JULY 2, 2011 – Thirty years after leaving their high school lives behind, the ever-energetic Grace Christian High School Batch of 1981 came together at the Acropolis Village Clubhouse for their Pearl Reunion, with the theme of “Level Up: Helping People Change Lives.”  The philanthropic theme was rather apropos, as that night also marked the fifth anniversary of Spartan Scholarships, a scholarship foundation founded by members of Batch ’81 on their silver anniversary reunion.

To honor the occasion (the third such reunion of Batch ’81), the organizing committee presented homegrown talent in the form of their rendition of Bill Wither’s “Lean On Me,” as well as performances by some of their children: a violin performance by Lance Gococo, and songs rendered by Frankie Torres and by Jared Go.  Frankie and Jared also acted as Masters of Ceremony for the event, having received the baton from seasoned hosts Melanie Torres (née Chan) and Lawrence Go.  The transition and philanthropic theme highlighted the continuing maturity of the members of the class, and the coming of age of a new generation, most of whom are also students of Grace Christian High School (now Grace Christian College).

As it was also Spartan’s big birthday, its first scholar, Ivory Sy, gave a heartwarming thank-you speech for the foundation’s hand in supporting her education.  Ivory also managed to be the big winner of the reunion raffle, to her and her family’s joy, scooping up a tablet PC and a cellular phone.   The other night’s lucky lady was Annabelle Lee Ho, who won a scholarship, courtesy of Dr. James Tan, president of GCC.

The event also marked the launching of the GCC Fitness Center, a project of Batch ’81 intended as a gift to their alma mater for use of students, faculty, staff and alumni and presented by no other that current GCC Student Council President, Kyle Dee, son of Atty. Gabriel Dee, also of Batch ’81 and Vice President of the Grace Alumni Association.

The celebration culminated with a presentation of a special token to Mrs. Lourdes Gomez, whose late  husband, Mr. Gomez, inspired the creation of Spartan Scholarships with his Spartan lifestyle.  Afterwards, Ms. Melanie Torres gave a short speech on the significance of the evening’s theme, and the night culminated with dancing.
